~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dokar ignored northern paths and roads, cutting north east through Derlund’s grain bowl. He didn’t stop for lunch, but tossed Hyla a piece of dried meat and an apple.
He glanced at the sky, his gaze tracking the sun. “We’ll dine at The Bottle and Barrel tonight. Gerlak, you’ll wait at the back entrance with the girl. I’ll get us a room and have the taverner let you up the back stairs.”
“I’ll watch her while you two eat,” Nigen offered from behind Hyla.
Dread gurgled in her stomach when Dokar replied, “She’d like that I think.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hope you enjoyed it! Be sure to stop back next week.

As J.A. Belfield has said, any and all are welcome to join her in this weekly shenanigan. HOWEVER, if you do so, she URGES you to keep the shared snippets short and sweet. Idle Hands? Get Creative! #WWW by Keri Neal #WritersLife

Welcome to another WWW!

Today book cover designer and author, Keri Neal, is visiting to share a bit about being a hands-on writer & being creative.

Take it away, Keri!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Idle Hands
I am a hands-on writer.
I mean that literally: my writing is at its best when I am doing something with my hands. I’m pretty sure this is linked to the brain somehow. Maybe the part of my brain that controls motor functions is near the part that controls imaginative processes. I’m not really sure, I failed Human Anatomy in college. Twice. So I’m going to go on pretending this is true and hopefully not offend any neurologists who may be reading this.
My favorite thing in the whole wide world is to curl up with a book and block out the world. Unfortunately if I’m reading, I’m not writing. I know people who can read, bake a cake, study French and run a household all while working on several manuscripts at once. I do not work this way. I write one manuscript at a time, and I can’t read anything new before that manuscript is published.
If writing is the only creative thing I did I would absolutely crazy. Thanks to my lovely grandmother I learned to crochet at a very young age. That hobby has stuck with me throughout my life and become a very useful tool in my writing. While my fingers run through the yarn and the hook whips my work-in-progress into shape, inside my brain a million synapses are whipping together worlds that will soon be transferred to words on a page.
Many writers have things that inspire them to write. Where does your inspiration come from?
Cover Love! Inspired by Danielle E. Shipley #Fiction
Congrats to Danielle for contracting another with JTP! Here's the purdy of her upcoming March release, Inspired.
Inspired
Release Date: March 17, 2014
Target Reader: Adult
Keywords: Fiction
For a muse like Lucianíel, one story’s end is another’s beginning.
In the wake of his author’s sudden death, Luc takes ownership of her surviving creations—four fantastical characters with tales yet to be told—saving them from unwritten lives crumbling around them and giving them a second chance at a literary future.
Luc finds that chance in the unsuspecting mind of Annabelle Iole Gray, a quirky teen with her head in the clouds, nose in a book, and imagination ripe for a brilliant muse’s inspiration.
Or so he hopes.
Neither Luc nor Annabelle, however, realize all they’ve undertaken. Even with a to-write list including accounts of a shape-shifting cat creature, gentle knight-in-training, vigilante skater girl, and a mystery boy smothering in unspoken fear, the most remarkable saga created between author and muse just may turn out to be one stranger than fiction.
Their own.
Sounds like a great read to me!! Looking forward to it.
Whatcha think?
“You’ll carry your own packs and I’ll hear no complaining—of weariness or any other female ailment,” Dokar said. “Understand?”
Hyla nodded, eyes downcast. She waited while the three soldiers mounted. Saddles creaked and bridles jangled as the horses tossed their heads. One snorted and stepped forward, brushing close to Hyla.
“You’d best keep up,” Dokar leaned down and hissed, “or I’ll make it harder for you not to. Or perhaps I’ll just turn my head next time Nigen thinks about dragging you off into the woods.”
For Jules, the heir of a Keeper, no less, suspects his family hides a forgotten secret. It was bad enough that his people, the Elfies of Reign, triggered a curse which reduced the entire inhabitants to a mere inch centuries ago. All because of one Keeper who failed his purpose. Even the King’s Ancient Books, did not help ward off that anathema.
Now, Gehzurolle, the evil lord, and his armies of Scorpents, seem bent on destroying Jules and his family. Why? Gehzurolle’s agents hunt for Jules as he journeys into enemy land to find the truth. Truth that could save him and his family, and possibly even reverse the age-long curse. Provided Jules doesn't get himself killed first.
#WWW : Rachel Brimble on Writer's Block #WritersLife
Writers Block – it arrived and bit me in the butt!!
For the first time since I started writing for publication back in 2005, I am in the middle of my first ever writing slump and need to vent some frustration!
I can’t help feeling my inability to move on with my current work in progress has been brought on by karma. I have always said that ‘writer’s block’ doesn’t exist. Just write! Anything…everything…it can always be edited, changed or cut, just write. Well, I’ve tried and tried and still I keep looking at what I’ve written and say to myself, “What in the world is that supposed to mean? Do? Say? It’s complete rubbish.”
The answer, of course, is that something is wrong with the book itself, whether that be the plot or characters…but lord knows what! Thankfully, I have an amazing editor and an amazing trio of critique partners who are stalwartly trying to pull me through this mire that is my next contracted book with Harlequin Superromance. Thanks to their feedback, I think the problem lies with my heroine and her motivation. It’s flimsier than a pair of seven denier pantyhose! No doubt, the mist will clear eventually… L
So what happens next? Back to the drawing board, I think. My editor has a lot more belief in me than I do right now but that’s what writing is, it’s a hard, dirty job that a huge amount of aspiring writers give up on. Teem the hard work, with the lack of ideas, with the time constraints, with the rejection and you’ve got to ask yourself, “WHY am I doing this?”
The answer is clear to anyone who feels, like me, they’ve found their calling…we HAVE to do this or be less than half the person we were meant to be. So onwards and upwards…watch this space for the result, which should be published in Christmas 2014 J
As for other writers out there? I sincerely hope I’ve inspired, rather than depressed you, lol! You can do this and twelve books later, I wanted to share that it isn’t just you who suffers these days/weeks or months of inactivity, it happens to us all. Keep on writing!
The answer? Move the shop to her home at 16 Marsden Place. The problem? Her new neighbor, the delicious but seriously uptight Jack Beaton. Oh, and his four-year-old twin girls.
Gerlak roused on her other side. As soon as his eyes opened, Hyla sat up. “I need a moment’s privacy.”
A yawn stretched Gerlak’s mouth. “Nigen will take you.”
“I’d prefer if you did,” Hyla quickly replied, not giving the soldier behind her a chance to agree. She begged Gerlak with her eyes, praying he would understand.
Gerlak glanced beyond Hyla and red spiked through his Aura. His brow furrowed.
He sees what I see. Thank the gods.
J.A. Belfield Bends the Rules?!? #Caged BlogTour Plus #Giveaway #PNR
Thrilled to be hosting one of my fav authors, J.A. Belfield, on her Caged blog tour! Of course I just HAD to have a tens list of her fav book boyfriends because she knows how to write a kick@$$ lovable, sexy character herself AND she reads like a fiend. I can always count on her to point me in the direction of a book that'll keep me up past midnight.
But enough of my rambling - waffling as she'd say. Let's take a look at the purdies (Ethan *swoon*) and hear what Ms. Belfield has to say ...
Oh wait. HERE is my 5* review, and here's a tidbit of what I thought of Caged:
"I just want you all to know that for a prego woman to sit on the couch from 9pm until midnight without getting up ONE SINGLE TIME to visit the bathroom is epic."  - Me
Top 10 Book Boyfriends
When Terri asked me to do a Ten’s List of Book Boyfriends, I thought: Piece o’ cake!
O_o
How naive was I?
Do you guys have any idea how difficult it is to narrow this down?
Yeah, you probably do. ;)
Anyway, I gave it my best shot. Knocked out my first few. Those were the easy ones. The ones where I still had 6 or 5 or 4 spots left to fill. Then I had 3 slots, then 2 ... and finally only one. It was choosing who would get to claim that final spot that was the killer. Trust me—I even sat on the ruling for a good few days. And the list below is who I came up with.
Though, to keep the sanity I’d lose if I had to choose between THEM, they are named in no particular order—because it was simply too much to compare my love of these guys. Check ‘em out.
1.  Lirium (Susan Kaye Quinn’s Debt Collector series)
I am so stupidly in love with this tortured soul, it’s ... well, stupid. I adore him. Even with every one of his flaws and crazy mistakes. He is my anchor back into reading when I go through a run of ‘unable to connect’s—guaranteed, he will re-rock my groove.
2.  Noah Hutchins (Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry)
Dude! If you’ve read PtL, then you’ll know what I’m saying here. Noah is strong, caring, considerate, rough around the edges with a few issues of his own he has to battle, HOT ... and I LOVED him.
3.  Tripp Fox (Aimee Laine’s Hide & Seek)
*sigh* Tripp Fox. I first read Hide & Seek as an early draft way back in 2010. I fell in love with Tripp Fox then. He still holds a piece of my heart even now. He is perfection ... and a little bit naughty. ;)
4.  Chris Merrick (Brigid Kemmerer’s Storm)
Okay, truth be told, ANY of the Merrick Brothers could have earned themselves a slot here in my top 10—especially as I change my mind about who I love most with each of their books that I read. However, Chris’s book came first, and it blew me away, and as Chris Merrick is the one responsible for first capturing me hook, line & sinker, and ensuring I wanted to read on to meet the rest of the brothers in more depth, he wins!
5.  Clay Danvers (Kelley Armstrong’s Otherworld series)
If you’re a KA fan, need I say more? Clay is like the taboo alpha male. The kind that, if you met him in real life, you’d drool over him but then scarper the second he opened his mouth. Yet, for some reason, what we deem acceptable in RL and what we’re willing to accept in our fictional males are nowhere near in the same ball park. Love his rudeness and attitude, and transparency, and very animalistic nature. He’s da wolf!
6.  Rehv (J.R. Ward’s Lover Avenged)
The BDB (Black Dagger Brotherhood) is my guilty pleasure. I could probably choose a good few from this series, but I’m trying to be frugal in my pickings, and so I’ve narrowed it down to Rhev. Was his book my favourite of the series? No, actually. However, I LOVED HIM! He has a few ‘special qualities’ I’d most probably be too pansified to ‘investigate’, if ever I met him in the dark corner of his club, but reading about them? Hot diggety dang! ;)
7.  Hunter (Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Obsession)
Dude! I fell in love with an ARUM! Everyone who takes note of my reading habits will know I fell in love with JLA’s character Daemon Black from the Lux series (which Obsession is a spin-off from). I LOVE strong snark in a male character, and DB has a lot of that. I also seem to have a bit of a thing for arrogance. I never really care who their snark and arrogance is aimed at so long as it’s delivered in a witty manner and makes me laugh. Again: this is Daemon Black. And then I met Hunter. He’s hot enough and MALE enough to send Daemon Black scuttling to the kiddies pool—because the big boy pond is ALL his.
8.  Kane Walker (Keri Lake’s Soul Avenged)
I have a ‘thing’ for anything even remotely were-animal, which includes shapeshifters and lycans galore. And the originality of getting to ‘watch’ Kane’s transition from bitten human to the end result allows a connection with this character on a whole level of its own. It also has a far greater impact when we finally get to see his transformation and how that ‘changes’ him on the inside. Plus, two words: Cave. Scene.
9.  Four (Divergent by Veronica Roth)
It’s been a decent while since I read this first in the trilogy. But one of the things that remains with clarity in my mind is just how much I tweeted about this dude as I met hom in my following along of Tris’s journey. I fell in love with him from the off, and I still loved him at the end. He’s cool, he’s tough, he’s loyal & caring, he’s fearless, and he’s HOT!
10.  Cade (Cora Carmack’s Faking It)
I have a confession to make. Up until around 3 days ago, I had every intention of giving this final spot to Garrick from Cora’s first in this series: Losing It. But then I read its sequel. And Cade stole Garrick’s thunder like Thor on a bender. From the word go, Ms Carmack ensures the reader connects with and feels for this dude. So, I wanted his HEA. And the fact the author makes him work for it, and he did so with bells on, just made me love him all the more. He’s fun & HOT & caring & considerate & strong & HOT & simply just Cade. Possibly the fact that he’s still so fresh in my mind is helping me make gooey faces even as I write his name. Cade *gooey face* Cade *flutters lashes* ... You get it yet?
So, there you have it. My Top 10 of Book Boyfriends.
BUUUUUUUT hold it right there.
Because this is MY post. So I get to bend the rules a little, right?
That’s what I thought.
You see, when I mentioned my struggle with narrowing these down on Facebook, a reader of my stuff said: I hope you’ll be including one of the Pack in there.
Well, truth was ... I wasn’t—because I wanted my choices to be a reflection of books that I’ve loved to read. However, she did make me question if I should choose my favourite from my own created ‘boys’. And I decided Yes!
So, here’s my bonus entry on my list of favourite book boyfriends:
11. Sean Holloway!
Surprise you? Thought it would be Ethan? Truthfully, my favourite often tends to be whoever I’m currently writing, but no matter which of the Holloway Pack members I’m highlighting at any given time, Sean is ALWAYS somewhere in my mind, always present, always trying to have his say. This dude holds my heart, for sure.
Thanks for reading!
One day, a character and scene popped into J. A. Belfield’s head, and she started controlling the little people inside her imagination, as though she were the puppet master and they her toys. Questions arose: What would happen if …? How would they react if …? Who would they meet if …?
Before she knew it, a singular scene had become an entire movie. The characters she controlled began to hold conversations. Their actions reflected the personalities she bestowed upon them. Within no time, they had a life, a lover, a foe, family … they had Become.
One day, she wrote down her thoughts. She’s yet to stop.
#FreeviewFriday Part II : Eye of the Soul #Fantasy #Excerpt
Welcome to Freeview Friday! Thanks again to the lovely J.A.Belfield for this awesome idea.
Each week I'm going to share a little snippet of my debut fantasy  novel, Eye of the Soul, which releases from J. Taylor Publishing on Oct. 7th.
I hope you'll follow along each week and get a feel for Hyla and her world. If you missed Part I, it can be found HERE.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The three Varosh soldiers snored like sows when not standing watch. Hyla found no rest. The sun rose, but Nigen sat awake while the other two men slept. He hovered at her right. Close enough to touch, he whispered about how he would ravish her pink flesh. He spoke of hemp rope and a knife, and the pleasure both would bring her.
Eyes clenched tight, Hyla tried to ignore the nauseating murmurs which broke her body into a cold sweat. Her full bladder ached, but the thought of relieving herself within the soldier’s line of sight turned her stomach.

As J.A. Belfield has said, any and all are welcome to join her in this weekly shenanigan. HOWEVER, if you do so, she URGES you to keep the shared snippets short and sweet.
